For me, it’d have to be the Coda. It’s basically a rebadged Chinese Mitsubishi, with it’s forced induction heart ripped out in exchange for a fairly unimpressive electric drivetrain. Because of that, it’s simple to see why pretty much nobody bought them. Therefore, it makes more sense why I have never seen one with my two eyes.

But what say you, Oppo, what generally considered, “boring,” car have you not laid eyes on?

While I disagree with you in every way imaginable, I will defend you when I say it has a slightly modified truck engine.

Scion iQ. Every American magazine ever tried to praise it as better than a smart (and mechanically, such is true). Yet they sold so few of them, Toyota decided to drop out of production of it.

I see 2 smarts on any given day, iQs are enough of a surprise to be worthy of “punch buggy [colour]!”

2009 Chevrolet Cobalt SS Turbo Sedan. I’ve seen the supercharged coupe/sedan, the NA coupe/sedan, and the turbo coupe but never the sedan. Assuming GM pulled the same bullshit they did with the Chevy SS and you could only buy them in the most remote part of Idaho or some other flyover state.

I’ve seen one around and inmyself have a coda bag I usengor lunches...but they were all located very close to where I lived. I chatted with the guy who owned all the coda gliders. It was pretty cool, as some were legal, some were gliders, and some had a non certified battery. He’d mentioned some prototypes of the next coda car (kinda of a aggressive hatchback) they were thinking of bringing to the states. Even funnier that he worked at a ford dealership near me. He talked about people who transplanted evo drivetraim into it, people im mexico screwing around in it, lots of possibilities. He ended selling g the current owners.

You okay, bud, this is an oddly written comment. Nonetheless, was the Coda as unimpressive in person as it is in pictures?

I’m typing on a tablet. Explains the funky writing. It was very...early 90s Toyota. Simple, sane, but no one was buying. They spent nearly all their money on federalizing it and had no more money for PR afterward. It was sad seeing 100+ cars on a lot without an owner.

Ah, makes sense. I’m honestly not surprised, it looked hopeless from the get-go. Plus, they weren’t cheap, so it’d be logical to have so many on a lot. And did they actually have dealers?

I’ve seen that car, but I worked next door to an EV research company.

I haven’t seen a previous gen Focus coupe in person. I doubt I’m missing anything though.

They had dealers (the best selling one was in the Silicon Valley as usual). I think the reason why there was a lot was they were fairly cheap made in china. It’s on a very exhaustively developed chassis (Mitsu). It was a 37k car (with 7500 rebate) that did not have an charging network nor the looks to attract Silcon Valleyites from heading to the Tesla dealership. I’ve seen one or two Codas, but Teslas are all over the place in SF Bay Area.

I think this may be a winner for me, too. In spite of the remarkable array of interesting, noteworthy, and generally unique cars that inhabit the town I live in, this is a unicorn. We’re talking a place with at least one 1960s Lotus, at least two i-MiEVs, multiple Saabarus, etc.

From my times there, I know Bainbridge has a few SAAB 96's, a bunch of Volvo 240's, a million Subaru’s (there’s even a Master Subaru Technician on Ferncliff), and I have also seenva Maserati Biturbo

Definitely a ton of Saabs, Volvos, and Subarus. The mix has been changing due to the invasion of people from the tech industry in Seattle trying to find suburban spots within an hour of downtown to live in... They’re driving our housing prices (and that of NK) straight into the stratosphere, turning traffic into a nightmare, and displacing a lot of interesting people/cars. Still, I’m pretty sure I’ve never seen a 9-4X SUV. That’d be weird enough that I’d take notice and it seems like something a certain subset here would want to drive.

Yep, my dad did the same thing. After becoming unhappy with NC, he moved back to his native WA. But after getting sick of Olympia, he moved his family to Bainbridge. He has a brown 2015 BMW X5, which I’m sure you’ve seen, but probably haven’t paid attention to it (I don’t blame you, it’s not interesting). But I love Bainbridge, it’s a lovely place.

Aren’t they building a mall? Because I know natives are pretty up in arms about it.

Kinja'd!!! Eric @ opposite-lock.com > Jack Does Cars

Kinja'd!!!0

No mall (aside from the two tiny ones we have), but we were up in arms about that Visconsi (sp?) development that cut down a big stand of trees. A developer also tore down the old government housing tract west of the Pavilion (mall) and have been building a “green” condo/townhome community there. There’s a lot of very bad construction projects recently as a result of the boom town atmosphere in Seattle and the bleed over. There has also been some construction activity down in Lynwood Center over the last few years.

There are quite a few brown BMW X5s around here. Definitely not notable, though. One of my coworkers even owns one in the same color.

There’s a good pizza place in Lynwood Center. I don’t remember what it’s called, though. If the owner of the X5 is a woman, there is a chance it could be my stepmother.

... yes.

Yes, Treehouse Cafe, which doesn’t have a sign anywhere on their building marking what they are. I always say that there are two good pizza places in the area and everyone has a favorite among the two. The other one is Bella Luna in Suquamish.

Not to sound creepy, but by using Google Maps, and a post of yours I have deduced that there is at least a 50% chance that you work with my stepmother.

Kinja'd!!! Eric @ opposite-lock.com > Jack Does Cars
01/27/2016 at 20:26

Kinja'd!!!0

Definitely, which is why I like working with her.

I sometimes wish I could do what he does. It sounds like a lot of fun.

The funny thing is that she’s one of the people in the company that doesn’t drive a manual. Over half the men do and at least a couple of the women...

If you’re ever in town and want to hang out, let me know.

Kinja'd!!! Jack Does Cars > Eric @ opposite-lock.com
01/27/2016 at 21:06

Kinja'd!!!0

Yeah, her first car was a ‘77 Pontiac Astre, but she does have manual experience from driving a Chevy S10 back in the 80's, my aunt’s Nissan Hardbody, among a few other things. Nonetheless, she loathes the manual transmission.

She’s also really into the Tesla Model S, the second generation Cadillac Escalade, and the first generation Volvo S60 (they had two, the first one they drove from Belltown to Raleigh, NC, in three days. T5 AWD, too. Truly a fun car).

My father has had a much more interesting car history: VW Rabbit Pickup diesel with a Scirocco GTI swap, manual Accord coupe, ‘64 Chevrolet truck, 86 Honda Prelude Si, among other things.

But, please, don’t mention me to her, for some reason she will flip out. It’s still crazy how small of a world Oppo is...
